The Festival is one of 15 possible episodes for chapter 4 in the visual novel and one of four episodes to follow Conflicting Desires, the others being The One I Love Most, With Great Reluctance and Premature Feelings, Discarded Feelings. In this episode Makoto abandons Kotonoha at the festival to dance with Sekai at the bonfire.
Plot[]
Kotonoha runs into Nanami and Setsuna as they're discussing the upcoming school festival. Kotonoha wonders if she can walk around the festival with Makoto now that they've broken up. Otome and the trio discuss the plans for the "break room" they're making for the festival and the subject of Kotonoha comes up. As they discuss whether or not Kotonoha and Makoto are going out together, Otome lets it slip that she likes Makoto and is planning on inviting him. In class 3, Makoto and the others are preparing for the festival and Makoto bumps into Kotonoha on the way out, leading to an awkward exchange. Kotonoha then runs into Taisuke and Kotonoha gives Taisuke the idea to ask Sekai out.
That evening, Taisuke calls Makoto to confirm whether or not he's dating Sekai so he can ask her. Makoto then claims that he's going to the festival with Sekai and that any rumors of him going out with anyone else are just that. Taisuke still decides to ask Sekai out. The scene shifts to Sekai's home, where she and Setsuna are making their waitress uniforms for the festival. Setsuna then explains to her the school traditions where dancing with someone at the folk dance will mean they won't break up that year and about the hidden break rooms.
During the school festival, the trio sticks the job of watching the reception desk to Kotonoha while they all go to have fun. Makoto doesn't have anything to do and Sekai wants to ask him to walk around the festival but can't and Kotonoha also can't ask him because she can't leave the reception desk. Taisuke goes over to chat with Kotonoha and then asks her to ask Sekai out on his behalf, having decided to ask her out anyway. Sekai then rejects him saying she doesn't want to go out with someone who has to confess through a girl. Taisuke then finds out Makoto is Kotonoha's boyfriend and drags him over to Kotonoha to help them make up. But before they have a chance to make up, Otome asks Makoto to walk around with her. Makoto goes and then after Otome reveals how she forced all the work on Kotonoha, he goes back. Before he can make it, Setsuna informs him where Sekai is and Makoto is forced to make a decision between them.
He meets with Sekai at the courtyard and the two dance at the bonfire.
Route[]
The route to The Festival is interesting, as there is a way to achieve this episode regardless of which girl the bar favors.
The key to this episode is during the phone call with Taisuke. If you tell him that you're in love with Sekai, and that you're only dating Kotonoha because Sekai told you to, then Taisuke will not approach Sekai during the festival. This will trigger a special scene with Setsuna after Makoto leaves Otome to run back to Kotonoha. During this scene, Setsuna will tell you that Sekai is waiting for him in the courtyard.
To get The Festival, you must either immediately go to Sekai in the courtyard, or continue to Kotonoha and reject her offer of sex. Makoto will then find Sekai in the courtyard and ask her to dance.
If you choose to to accept Kotonoha's offer of sex, then you will get one of the following instead:
- If you are unable to endure sex with Kotonoha and leave early, you will get Premature Feelings, Discarded Feelings.
- If you have sex with Kotonoha and the bar favors Kotonoha at the end of the chapter, you will get With Great Reluctance.
- If you have sex with Kotonoha and the bar favors Sekai at the end of the chapter, you will get The One I Love Most.
The Festival effectively merges with the Bonfire for Two route.
